The British Travel Awards is proud to be supporting three charities this year; the Make-A-Wish Foundation, The World Land Trust and Just a Drop.
Money is raised for each charity via on the night prize draws, a silent auction and proceeds from both the event brochure and table sales.
Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK has a very simple objective – to grant magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. The charity was founded in the UK in 1986 and since then has granted over 6,400 wishes. There are over 20,000 children in the UK living with a life-threatening illness. We believe that every one of them deserves to experience the magic of a Make–A–Wish wish – and they are truly magical. A small and dedicated team of professional wish granters works alongside hundreds of volunteers to turn our children's wishes into reality. Whether a wish is to be a princess or a train driver for the day, own the latest TV or computer equipment, meet a favourite celebrity or just enjoy some special time away from home with their family, a wish come true brings so much to a child's life and provides memories that last a lifetime for the whole family. This year, around 1,000 children will turn to Make–A–Wish to have their special wish granted – we need to raise over £5 million per year to continue granting these magical wishes. Make-A-Wish receives no government funding or lottery grants, relying on the generous donations of the public and that's why, for our charity, every donation really counts. If you would like more information about Make–A–Wish please visit their website at www.make-a-wish.org.uk or contact them on: Tel: 01276 40 50 60 Email: info@make-a-wish.org.uk Make-A-Wish Foundation UK
Just a Drop the international water aid charity is supported by the UK travel industry and for the 5th consecutive year by the British Travel Awards. Just a Drop raises money to build wells, install boreholes and hand pumps and carry out sanitation and health education programmes in some of the poorest parts of the developing world. Their mission is to reduce child mortality by delivering accessible clean, safe water where it is needed most. Bottled water on the tables at the gala awards night has been produced to afford a per-bottle donation to Just a Drop. If you would like more information, or would like to make a donation to Just a Drop please contact: nikki.davis@reedexpo.co.uk for information or visit www.justadrop.org
The British Travel Awards will also be supporting a third charity this year, the World Land Trust. The World Land Trust is an international conservation organisation that works to protect critically endangered habitats around the world, from the Atlantic rainforests of South America, to Orang-utan habitat in Borneo and Elephant corridors in India. World Land Trust, whose Patron is Sir David Attenborough, was established in 1989 and has helped save over 500,000 acres of endangered habitats and the species, many of which are endemic, that depend on them. WLT have a policy never to own any of the land they help to purchase outright. Instead, full management and ownership is vested in carefully selected NGOs ensuring permanent protection of the land.
